We are currently seeking an Senior Director of Finance and Accounting who will bring their expertise of not-for-profit accounting to strengthen The Fellowship finance function by enhancing analysis, compliance, and reporting. The individual in this role will serve as a leader in the finance and accounting group, working closely with the VP of Finance to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Senior Director will focus on overseeing the accounts payable and financial reporting functions, directly managing the audit and annual 990 compliance, and supporting the budget processes and forecasting for the organization. In collaboration with the VP of Finance, the Senior Director will identify and implement process improvements that will contribute to the success of the financial function within the organization.

Primary responsibilities include:
Conducting ongoing analysis of key financial areas in audit and tax, including restricted and unrestricted funds, grant disbursement tracking and management, and joint costs allocations. Executing proactive analysis for calculations used at rating agencies. Ensuring the maintenance and compliance with internal controls.
Leading, guiding, coaching, and mentoring direct reports in financial reporting and accounts payable as well as the department team. Ensuring the success of the team and their performance with an eye toward internal controls and continuous improvement.
Leading the charge in accurate and timely completion of the Form 990 tax filing and related tax reports. Acting as the liaison with tax accountants.
Supporting annual budgeting and periodic forecasting for the organization, including preparing schedules and other reports. Providing internal analysis reports to managers in the organization. Participating in budget to actual department reviews. Providing financial training to budget owners to assist them in the preparation and review of their budgets.
Facilitating and anticipating needs for the annual audit process and assist in the preparation of the audited financial statements, including preparation of key schedules, consolidations and footnotes
Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or equivalent related experience. Master’s in accounting or related field highly desired
At least 10 years of experience in accounting and finance, preferably with direct non-profit direct fundraising organizations and/or with public accounting firms, focusing on non-profit clients. Experience must include at least 5 years of success at the management level. International consolidation experience a plus
Substantial experience preparing and overseeing tax returns for non-profit charitable organizations (990s). Thorough knowledge and understanding of compliance with IRS guidelines related to charitable organizations
Experience using forecasting budgeting models
Thorough knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) especially as they relate to non-profit organizations
Skilled in preparing and reviewing financial statements, including account analysis, financial reporting and general ledger with an eye for details
Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with sophisticated accounting systems, (SageIntacct and/or Adaptive Planning)
Ability to successfully mentor and coach staff
Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to “tell a story” from the numbers and make sound recommendations
Strong ability to provide management with solutions-based financial analysis
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work with all levels of the organization
Ability to manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail and excellent follow-up. Strong organizational, project, and time management skills in a fast-paced, tight timeline environment, delivering projects on time
Self-motivated team player with strong ability to also work independently
Sound professional and social judgement in building relationships with internal and external colleagues
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office Suite 365 with intermediate to advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Excel
