The Finance Professional 1 is an integral member of the Morrill Hall Shared Services Team (MHSST). As a primary financial contact for the Office of Undergraduate Education including the Vice Provost and Dean, University Honors Program, Student Success, Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, and Orientation and Transition Experiences, this position is responsible for non-sponsored finance management functions focusing on budgeting, reporting and forecasting, transaction support and approval, and reconciliation. The position requires knowledge of accounting principles as well as University policy.
This is a 100% time, 12-month Civil Service position as Finance Professional 1 (job code 8221FG).
JOB DUTIES: 40%:
Serve as a Shared Services Primary Contact for the Office of Undergraduate Education; Units include Vice Provost and Dean, University Honors, Student Success, Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, and Orientation and Transition Experiences. Assist, advise and train unit staff on accounting policies and procedures related to purchasing, procurement cards, contract for professional services, travel and expense reimbursements, and vouchers.
Provide transactional accounting support to assigned units in coordination with supervisor.
Develop annual Preliminary Budget Development Worksheet and Detailed Budget models in conjunction with Supervisor.
Coordinate with Supervisor regarding potential deficits.
Monitor monthly financial activity and forecast annual performance of operational budgets.
Interpret and apply financial policies to support departmental programming.
Analyze, review and approve all financial documents (i.e. requisitions, vouchers, purchasing card, Chrome River reimbursements, and journal entries) with consideration to fund availability and budget plans
Coordinate with Supervisor year-end closeout of operational budgets.
Assign work to and assist in the training, monitoring workload of cluster processors/accounting staff
Maintain, update and process information related to system-wide award transfers.
Monitor available funding within designated Foundation funds.
Work closely with cluster HR/Payroll staff to ensure Human Resource expense is accurate and is aligned with Budget Plan.
Coordinate with Supervisor to ensure that Tuition and Fee Management System (TFMS) entries are developed and submitted in accordance with department needs.
Work within the larger Shared Services Team in a back-up capacity as needed.
Continue professional development through attendance of courses, workshops, seminars, and other meetings.
BA/BS degree or a combination of education and related work experience totaling four years.
Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
Experience in using Microsoft Excel and online reporting tools.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with people from a variety of backgrounds, communities, and identities.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple and sometimes competing projects and assignments.
