Murphy Desmond S.C., a prestigious Madison Wisconsin, mid-sized law firm with offices in Appleton, Dodgeville and Janesville, seeks an experienced person to serve as the firm’s Business and Finance Director. He or she will be responsible for managing the business and finance functions of the firm and will work closely with the firm’s Office Services and Facilities Director and its IT Manager in the day-to-day operations of the firm. The chosen candidate will be responsible for identifying and planning for the changing needs of the organization while contributing to the cost-effective management and success of the firm.
As a vital member of the firm’s leadership team, the Business and Finance Director reports directly to the firm’s president and serves the Board of Directors as necessary. He or she also will sit on the Retirement, Legal Resources and Shareholder Compensation Committees of the firm to assist with shareholder compensation, strategic planning and firm-wide initiatives.
Required skills and qualifications include: (1) at least 5 years of accounting, management or other significant experience in leadership and management positions, preferably in a law firm or other professional service organization; (2) excellent interpersonal leadership and supervisory skills; (3) exceptional written and oral communications skills; (4) demonstrated ability to identify and analyze complex problems, recommend and implement solutions; (5) Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance or accounting required with the ideal candidate having a Master’s degree or designation as Certified Legal Manager (CLM) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA); (6) ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects and tasks; (7) proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or other similar software programs, accounting software systems and information systems with a general understanding of what technology can do for a firm and its clients, and (8) ability to maintain confidential records and communications. Experience or knowledge of Sure Point back office software is a plus.
