Working closely with the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) Chief Operations Officer (COO) and other senior personnel, the GBHI Finance & Operations Manager has a critical role in overseeing day-to-day GBHI operations, managing key GBHI programmatic initiatives, and directing financial planning and analysis across the institute.
Responsibilities and duties include program related planning activities supporting GBHI operations, such as strategic planning, policy development, and implementation. The Finance and Operations Manager manages and oversees the financial components of the institute-wide grant awards portfolio. As of 2020, the portfolio includes 88 awards for a total of $2.2 million. Grants program oversight includes participating in a program committee of senior faculty, defining program strategy, pre- and post- award management, among other critical and strategic duties. This also includes close collaboration with counterparts at a key partner organization.
Working closely with the COO, the Finance and Operations Manager also oversees the fiscal aspects of GBHI's international partnerships and impact funding efforts. This includes developing and maintaining relationships with external partners and routinely overseeing planning and logistics for high profile international events, including supervision the GBHI Program and Events Coordinator. Other duties include coordinating contracting with international entities, contributing to grant development for key regions and providing technical expertise and support around budgets and fiscal management.
Financial planning and analysis responsibilities include forecasting of the annual operating budget and multiyear budget projections ($20 million/year and $270 million/15 years), preparation of quarterly financial reports for the GBHI Executive Committee and Governing Board, as well as participating in strategic planning. Financial planning also includes the monitoring and reporting on the balances of funds at the UCSF Foundation and Fund Functioning as an Endowment (FFE), as well as conducting related analysis and informing drawdowns, withdrawals and cross-site transfers. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient and effective reporting and financial controls.
The Finance and Operations Manager works closely with the GBHI Senior Management Team, including the Executive Director and COO based at UCSF and the Deputy Executive Director and Deputy COO based at Trinity College Dublin.
