The George Mason University Department of Physics and Astronomy, in the College of Science, invites qualified candidates to apply for our part-time Finance Assistant position. Note: This position requires the incumbent to use administrative systems that cannot be accessed by current students. As a result, individuals currently enrolled in a Mason degree program are not eligible to be hired into this position.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the department's finance function through tasks including, but not limited to reconciling accounts; processing reimbursements and payments; supporting faculty, staff, and visitor travel; tracking expenditures; and ensuring that files and records are kept up to date and accurate in accordance with college, university, and federal regulations.
Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Finance or business-related field, or a combination of equivalent training and work experience;
The ability to obtain and maintain access to university administrative systems such as Banner and Microstrategy;
High proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
High level of initiative and ability to work productively with limited supervision;
Strong attention to detail;
Ability to respond and work effectively and efficiently in a multitasking environment with deadlines;
Ability to maintain discretion with confidential materials.
Experience working in an academic unit within a higher education environment;
Experience working with sponsored programs (grants and indirect funds).
Salary: $18-22 per hour; Commensurate with education and experience.
