Chief Financial Officer and Director of Administration and Finance
The Seeing Eye, Inc.
The Seeing Eye, the pioneering and premier guide dog school in the world, seeks a collaborative and strategic Chief Financial Officer and Director of Administration and Finance (CFO) with expertise in accounting, financial strategy, and business operations. Reporting directly to the President/CEO and working as a strategic partner with the Board of Trustees and senior leadership, the new CFO will play a key role in the organization’s fiscal and business affairs through strategic financial planning, effective stewardship of assets, and astute financial counsel. The position is open because the current CFO/Director of Administration & Finance has announced his retirement after a successful 15-year stint with The Seeing Eye and a 45-year career with several organizations.
For the past 92 years, The Seeing Eye has enhanced the independence, dignity, and self-confidence of people who are blind and visually impaired through the use of Seeing Eye ® dogs – selecting, breeding, and training dogs for lives of service, carefully matching dogs and their blind owners, and teaching them to work together as a mutually supporting team. From its inviting 70-acre campus outside of Morristown, NJ, and a nearby state-of-the-art breeding station, The Seeing Eye trains about 250 teams of graduates and guide dogs each year.
The Seeing Eye is distinguished by the clarity of its purpose, the excellence of its program, the strength of its finances, and the stability of its leadership. Its $27 million budget is supported by annual giving, bequests, and an endowment of approximately $300 million. This is an organization proud of its history and determined to preserve the culture of respect and dignity for which it is known. The Seeing Eye is guided by its core values of mission passion, stewardship, teamwork and collaboration, respect for others, integrity, and pursuit of excellence in furtherance of its mission.
A key member of The Seeing Eye’s senior leadership team, the CFO will partner with the President/CEO and other leaders in enhancing the organization’s financial position and supporting its mission. The next CFO will join The Seeing Eye at an exciting time and moment as it implements an ambitious new strategic plan. The ideal candidate will possess strong communications skills, strong financial expertise, management experience, and a collegial, collaborative style. Candidates must have a commitment to the mission of The Seeing Eye, with an appreciation for the challenges that blind people face and an understanding of what they can achieve when empowered. A love of people and dogs is essential.
