Green Mountain Valley School (“GMVS”) is one of the nation’s leading ski academies producing world-class athletes who are also well-rounded scholars and citizens. The School was founded in 1973 as a winter-term tutorial by local ski coaches and community leaders. It has grown to 130 full-time students and a robust weekend training program. The School has a strong college preparatory program with a rich academic offering and impressive facilities such as a LEED-certified library, state of the art Racing Performance Center, theater, dormitories, two soccer fields, and a student center. The Kelly Brush Race Arena at Sugarbush Resort and six nearby Nordic centers provide GMVS student-athletes remarkable on-snow training opportunities. GMVS also hosts training camps in Colorado, West Yellowstone, Germany, Norway, Chile, and Italy each year. GMVS is located in Waitsfield, Vermont (45-minutes south of Burlington).
Reporting directly to the Head of School, the Director of Finance & Operations will be a key member of the school’s leadership team with a specific focus on:
The Director of Finance & Operations will oversee the maintenance and improvement of the School’s buildings and grounds, including those associated with alpine on-snow operations at the Kelly Brush Race Arena at Mt. Ellen. The DFO will also work with the School’s leadership team and the Board of Trustees to develop a Campus Master Plan, serving as a key strategist around building projects and the establishment of appropriate budget allocations for campus improvements.
Financial Health & Sustainability
Working closely with the Head of School, the Director of Finance & Operations will work to ensure the going financial health and long term financial sustainability of the School. The DFO will help identify ways to further distinguish GMVS and to implement strategies to identify additional sources of revenue, manage and control costs, and plan for future generations of students.
The Director of Finance & Operations will ensure that risk management processes are well coordinated across the institution, align with priorities, safeguard its assets, and minimize institutional risks and costs.
