The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA), a national association serving nurses and other hospice and palliative care healthcare professionals, is seeking an experienced Controller. The Controller will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting, and financial reporting activities. The position will lead all day-to-day finance operations and supervise a team of 2 staff members including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grant funding.

Responsibilities for this role include the following:
Responsible for all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
Administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the program leaders; continuously collaborate with program leaders to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
Plan and direct the annual budgeting and planning process. Assist department heads with the development of their budgets
Main contact with financial vendors
Support the CEO in engaging the Boards and the Boards’ audit and finance committees involving Board finances, as well as issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting
Four-year college Accounting degree required. Non-Accounting degrees need not apply
Seven + years of experience in Accounting and Finance.
Experience with a complex non-profit with multiple programs
Previous experience leading audit preparation.
Proficient in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite
Commitment to leading and promoting a diverse team and workplace.
Candidate must have demonstrated experience as a participative manager, able to coach, encourage, and hold staff accountable.
Experience working professionally and collaboratively with a non-profit Board
Must reside in the Pittsburgh, PA area for approximately 12-18 months. Thereafter the position will likely become fully remote.
