Atlanta Girls’ School Position Description Job Title: Director of Finance and Operations AtlantaGirls’School (AGS)is theonly independent school for girls inAtlanta, serving approximately 200 girls in grades6–12. AGS provides a challenging college-preparatory program in a learning environment designed to foster the full potential of each girl. AGS is primarily supported by tuition and contributions and has a modest endowment. POSITION OVERVIEW Essential Employee The Director of Finance andOperations is responsible forthe supervision and administration of the financial and operational aspects of the school. This position serves as a key member of the Administrative Team and works closely with the Finance and Investment Committee and the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees. Reports to: Head of School Direct Reports: Contracted Controller, IT Coordinator, Facilities Director and Contracted Facilities Employees, Human Resources Contractor, Receptionist and Front Desk Personnel PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES Area of Responsibility: Financial Operations Responsibilities: • Oversees financial operations and respective staff • Ensures timely and accurate reporting that includes both financial results and analysis • Maintains an effective system of internal controls to ensure financial information is complete and accurate and financial statements are reliable • Oversees and manages the annual budgeting and long-range financial planning processes to ensure that the financial plan supports the mission and strategic plan of the school • Manages the cash flow of the school. Responsibilities include the authority to establish credit, collections and purchasing policies and to establish schedules for the payment of bills and financial obligations • Approves all agreements concerning financial obligations, such as contracts requiring a commitment of financial resourcesCommunicates fiscal changes and challenges to the Head of School and the Board of Trustees in a timely manner • Serves as the primary liaison with the Finance and Investment Committee • Directs the annual audit process as well as tax return (990) preparation and filing • Oversees the management of the school’s endowment • Manages relationships with third party partners that support the financial operations of the school, including banking, investment management, and tuition management • Develops innovative solutions to challenges in financial strategies, financial analysis, reporting and management information systems, use of appropriate systems and technology, and cost-effective use of resources Area of Responsibility: Facilities Responsibilities: • Oversees the operations and respective staff of all facilities and plant operations • Works in partnership with the Facilities Director to ensure that the physical plant and grounds serve the learning and working environments of the school, keeping abreast of long-range and strategic planning • Oversees all plant construction, renovation, and related planning • Ensures reliability and code compliance of all life safety and building security systems • Administers building lease • Identifies and manages preventative maintenance and capital project initiatives • Supervises purchase and maintenance of appropriate equipment, supplies, and systems to support the needs of the school Area of Responsibility: Personnel Management Responsibilities: • Oversees the Human Resources function and respective staff • Oversees the secure maintenance of HR records • Establishes and supervises the administration of personnel programs and policies as they relate to hiring and termination procedures, time off, workers’ compensation, safety, training, performance, evaluation, and compensation • Establishes appropriate employee benefit programs and recommends changes to enhance benefits and/or reduce costs • Oversees the administration of the 403(b) plan Area of Responsibility: Enrollment and Financial Aid Responsibilities: • Oversees the annual enrollment process • Oversees the financial aid process and chairs the Financial Aid Committee • Works closely with the Admissions Office and Head of School to ensure optimal and sustainable levels of enrollment and financial aid Area of Responsibility: Information Technology Responsibilities: • Works closely with the IT Coordinator to ensure that all hardware and software components of the infrastructure support the learning and working environments, keeping abreast of the school’s long-range and strategic plansArea of Responsibility: Risk Management Responsibilities: • Provides oversight of all risk management • Works closely with the Head of School and other Administrators to maintain policies and procedures that support the safe and effective functioning of the school • Serves as primary liaison with the Audit Committee • Serves as the liaison to all third--?party insurance providers and the school’s attorney Area of Responsibility: Leadership Responsibilities: • Assists the Head of School with special projects as requested • Performs other duties as assigned • Trains and develops direct reports to independently manage their areas of responsibility

Bachelor’sdegree or higher from an accredited college or university. Degree in business or financial management preferred • Five yearsormore experience in a relevant business/financeleadership role;independent school experience preferred • Self-motivated with professional demeanor, positive attitude, and strong work ethic • Ability to represent the school and interact effectively with a very broad constituency with professionalism and enthusiasm • Ability to consistently manage a wide variety of issues, situations, and people • Mathematical and reasoning skills such as: o Ability to analyze and organize financial data o Ability to make accuratecomputations o Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques o Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management o Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of clientele o Ability to develop and deliver presentations • Technological skills and abilities such as: o Computer literate with ability to quickly adapt to new computer software packages o Proficient in Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint o Proficient with Quick Books and have an understanding of Raiser’s Edge • Great attention to detail and initiative in problem solving • General knowledge of federal and state employment law including HIPPA, FMLA, ADA, FLSA AND EEO • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality • Position requires the physical and sensory abilities necessary to work in a school office environment, with ability to handle distractions and maintain focus, sitting at a desk/working on a computer for an extended period of time, and being able to move around the building and grounds and occasionally lifting up to 30 lbs. Employee must have a valid Georgia driver’s license or the ability to obtain a valid Georgia driver's license. |
