The University seeks a Senior Manager of Finance and Administration to facilitate the launch of the research center, building the academic unit’s administration, including establishing the financial structure, overseeing space renovations, determining the staff structure and hiring the administrative staff, managing collaborative funding, and engaging with leading scholars and physicians at other universities who may participate as collaborators. Successful candidates will be professionals experienced in the research environment with the skills to manage the administration and operations of the Center.
The Senior Manager of Finance & Administration works closely with the Center Director to execute policy and strategic direction for the center’s operation and participates in short and long-term planning for operations and activities. While the Director establishes the academic and intellectual direction of the Center, the Sr. Manager provides support for the Director’s vision. The Director and the Sr. Manager will collaborate on strategic planning for the department, and the manager is responsible for ensuring that the faculty and staff in the Center have the necessary assistance to carry out their academic, research and administrative duties. The Sr. Manager represents the Center and the Director, serving as a liaison internally and also externally, with partner institutions and funding agencies. This position requires familiarity with the challenges and opportunities of a major scientific research enterprise as well as significant experience in financial management, grant management and personnel management. The Sr. Manager reports directly to the Director, with a secondary reporting relationship to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the office of the Dean of the Faculty. Responsibilities
Strategic Planning: In collaboration with the Director, lead annual strategic planning and capacity-building efforts in support of the Center’s vision for current and future years.
Academic Management: Coordinates recruitment and hiring of faculty (for joint appointments with affiliated academic departments)
Talent management: Together with the Director, develop staffing plan for Center.
Donor relations and communications: Facilitate communications and collaborate with faculty, central administration, advancement, donors, alumni, students and staff.
Financial Management: Establish account structures. Develop operating budget.
Facilities Management: Oversee space and laboratory renovations. Together with the Director/Chair and Office of Capital Projects, set the parameters and scope of the overall project
