Grants and Finance Analyst

About the Department:

The Department of Physics and Astronomy was created to support the College's strategic plan in improving administrative efficiency and allowing for broader academic programs. Its mission is to provide the interdisciplinary advantages and opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students and ensure success in 21st –century careers through lectures, labs, seminars, events and research. Faculty contribute their scholarship in creating and applying new knowledge.

Responsibilities:

The Grants and Finance Analyst supports the department in all fiscal-related activities.

Specific duties:

• Independently manage the research activities, including both labor and direct expenditures;
• Serve as a subject matter expert to guide PIs on processes and regulations ensuring compliance with Mason, Commonwealth and federal rules;
• Guide PIs to adhere to appropriate spending rate and utilization of sponsored project funds;
• Manage the departmental budgets in collaboration with the department Chair, including providing projections for annual budget and bi-annual equipment allocation requests;
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date information on the revenues and expenditures for the department, including E&G, Lab Fees, Foundation, Indirect orgs, and Sponsored Project funds;
• Review budgeted academic year salary reflected on funded projects; ensures timely and accurate effort allocation;
• Work with department Chair and/or primary point of contact (POC) within the College-level Finance team to mitigate impact and financial risk;
• Oversee and administer the full range of post-award functions for the department and its research centers.
  
  

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office;
• Ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile and evaluate data;
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential employee and budgetary information in a timely and accurate manner;
• Ability to work independently with strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and multi-tasking;
• Ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines;
• Ability to anticipate and spot problems, alert supervisor, and make recommendations;
• Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Intermediate Excel experience;
• Familiarity with federal grant processes.

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.
