Princeton University The Empirical Studies of Conflict Project (ESOC) at the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA), the Julis-Rabinowitz Center for Public Policy and Finance (JRCPPF), and the Department of Operations Research and Financial Engineering (ORFE) at Princeton University seek outstanding candidates for a one-year postdoctoral research associate position in the area of development finance starting September 1, 2021. In addition to pursuing their own independent research, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will play a key role in supporting a new Research Community at Princeton focusing on development finance in fragile and conflict-affected states.The first objective will be working with ORFE faculty on a structure of risk measures appropriate to assessing decisions to mobilize finance in fragile states. Key technical aims are to develop a framework of risk measures appropriate to assessing threats, and to leverage modern machine learning tools to harness the information in large visual, verbal, and numerical localized data now available. The second objective will be collaborating with ESOC faculty on the development of a publicly available development finance dataset on development finance in fragile states. The position provides an excellent opportunity for collaboration with Princeton faculty, graduate and undergraduate students. There are no teaching obligations.Postdoctoral Research Associates are expected to participate actively in the intellectual activities of Princeton University. Applicants must have received a Ph.D., received or expected between September 2018 and September 2021, in such fields as Economics, Operations Research, or Data Science. This is a 12-month term appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on satisfactory performance and funding.All candidates with relevant research interests are encouraged to submit an application..
