The Initial Review Date for this job is: 02/08/2021 Dept Marketing Statement The Center for Agroecology & Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) is an education, research, and public service organization, and officially a research center of the Social Sciences Division of the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). The organic UCSC Farm and Chadwick Garden anchor our production, research, and education activities; however, CASFS work extends beyond the limits of these physical spaces to engage the campus, the local community, and beyond. CASFS hosts innovative agroecological research and offers educational activities including practical training in organic farming and gardening, undergraduate classes, labs, internships, research projects, and service learning. We engage in community education through gardening workshops, and farmer field days at the UCSC Farm. CASFS has led the charge for more sustainable food procurement on campus and for bringing greater food security to UCSC students in need and on all ten UC campuses through our engagement and promotion of Basic Needs. Specifically, the mission of the Center for Agroecology & Sustainable Food Systems is to advance agroecology and equitable food systems through experiential education, participatory research, agricultural extension, and public service. We envision an equitable food system that empowers local communities, builds relationships, and nourishes all people and the environment. The work of CASFS is rooted in collaboration and innovation. Along with the Assistant Director of Personnel and Facilities, manages, plans, administers and coordinates the administrative operations of CASFS, the operations of which are significantly complex and/ or broad in scope. Reports to the Director. Performance of administrative and financial operations activities are the predominant focus of position; supervises support staff or small number of professional staff within or outside the scope of main business activities. Performs short and long term operations planning. Regularly works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals result in additional costs, and serious delays in overall schedules. The incumbent's work will support the CASFS mission to advance agroecology and equitable food systems through experiential education, participatory research, agricultural extension, and public service. The incumbent will support CASFS efforts to integrate equity into all aspects of CASFS work and programming. Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule Salary Information: Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Has signature authority and approves requisitions < $5,000. 20% - Manages, plans, and administers a full range of administrative operations in a small to medium academic department, or a small to medium non-academic department or program, where operations are significantly complex in terms of budgetary funding, number of accounts and fiscal compliance requirements. Participate in CASFS staff and committee meetings and planning. Assures accountability for operational and budget processes, staff FTE, finance, human resources. Primary CASFS staff contact to Social Sciences Divisional budget analyst assigned to CASFS accounts. 15% - Provides analysis for highly complex budgetary funding, financial and resource projects. Applies advanced concepts to perform analysis to determine future resource allocations on projects, including future capital projects, new/modified academic (research and teaching) programs conducted at/with CASFS. 10% - Develops and prepares complex budgets with multiple funding sources for grants, general appropriations, and endowments. Prepares short and long range planning for administrative services operations and improvements to processes. 10% - Grant compliance: May serve as special resource for pre- and post-contracts and grants work, interpreting regulations and guidelines on grants and / or contracts, ensuring expenses are paid according to contract, and / or monitoring contract and grant expenditures. 10% - Typically supervises support staff or small number of professional staff within or outside the scope of main business activities (e.g., student services, facilities, etc.). 5% - Represents the department on business issues to the institutional community and serves on committees.
