Finance Manager
The Brownstone School
Overview of Position The Brownstone School is an early childhood program located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side for over 55 years. Currently, we serve approximately 70 families and are members of NYSAIS, NAIS, ISAAGNY, and the Parents League of New York.
We are seeking a Part Time Finance Manager who is very comfortable working in a small school environment; one who is friendly, open and approachable; and who enjoys working with young children, parents and teachers. The candidate should have experience working in a school environment and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
The Finance Manager will report directly to the Director and will interact with our Board of Trustees. This individual will set the vision and direction for both short and long term budgeting, analysis and forecasting in alignment with our mission and program operations. The Business Manager maintains relationships with banks, professional accountants, vendors used by the school, and insurance companies.
This may be a part time or full time position depending on the candidate.
Duties & Responsibilities The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Finance Manager Keep an accurate continuous record of the cash and financial position of the school and manage the financial operation of the school so that the institution remains financially stable Manage day-to-day financial operations of the school including managing and ensuring the accuracy of the accounting records, adhering to internal controls, ensuring financial objectives are satisfied, and preparing policies and financial statements. Oversee annual audit by independent certified public accountant. Prepare annual operating budget in conjunction with Director; present reconciliation of prior year budget reconciliation as well as current year budget to Board of Trustees , Board Treasurer, and Audit Committee, report quarterly performance to Director. In conjunction with Director, maintain appropriate levels of insurance to protect the property and to cover the liability of the school including Directors and Officers insurance, property, liability, and student accident policies. Responsible for submitting payroll; maintaining all records of employee attendance; administering all benefit programs including pension, retirement plan, health and dental plans, disability insurance, worker’s compensation, etc. To develop, maintain and report all required environmental, health and maintenance standards as required by law and to work with the administration to ensure compliance with all regional, state and federals regulations and laws as they impact the school Manage all school banking activities; track expenditures and monitor cash flow; plan for long-term investments in school facilities and programs along with Director and Board of Trustees. Manage all accounts payable and receivable; review and pay all bills on a timely basis; prepare and manage bank deposits; maintain accurate records of tuition payments and donations in Quickbooks Online; process credit card payments for donations and ACH payments for vendors and tuition payments. To oversee the physical operation of the entire school and its programs; assists in the selection of qualified companies and contractors, obtains competitive bids, and oversees work on-site as required.

Qualifications Candidate should be proficient with MAC computers and be comfortable with Excel, Quickbooks, online banking. Must be able to demonstrate prior experience working with finances. Candidate should be friendly, outgoing and easy to work with. |
