Provide comprehensive, global financial reports, projections, and budgets for assigned faculty, departmental, and educational programs.
Prepares, reviews, and analyzes a variety of reports, accounts, reconciliations, schedules, tables,
and/or statements to and from internal departments, financial institutions, and external agencies.
These are reported at a certain time interval and identify risks and opportunities within the area being analyzed.
Use analytical approach to fiscal oversight of PI's financial resources - using projections and forward thinking, actively advise PI's on potential problems and resolutions.
Proactively work with MNPI Finance Manager to provide periodic updates, issue alerts and problem resolution.
30% SPONSORED ACCOUNTS OVERSIGHT
Partner with PI to provide financial support, reporting and planning over the life of grants and contracts.
Coordinate with PI’s and Grant Coordinators to prepare budgets for grant submissions.
Work with SPA (Sponsored Projects Administration) to administer pre-award accounts, project activation, rebudgets, carryover, subcontracts, child accounts, no cost extensions, and resolving issues.
Work with SFR (Sponsored Financial Reporting) staff on financial statements and final project closeout.
Coordinate funded project activities that cross University departments and Institutions.
Analyze projects for compliance with agency and University policies and regulations.
Monitor spending, including labor distribution, and payroll adjustments
Research alternate opportunities for the best advantage to the PI.
Financial expert on all aspects of complex grant accounting for assigned sponsored grants.
20% NON-SPONSORED ACCOUNTS OVERSIGHT
Budget entry following University and Medical School budgeting procedures.
Reconcile assigned chartstrings and analyze monthly financial results for reasonableness.
Forecast results for the remaining year and beyond to ensure financial security.
Identify and communicate potential deficits/errors and work with faculty or department personnel, as applicable, for solutions.
Prepare various forecasts and reports as requested from departments, finance manager and Medical School.
Ensure that year-end closeout processes are done timely and that all chart-string deficits have been removed.
Rate development for course fees: Develop annual budget and sound cost analysis for rate development of course fees. Monitor all activity for policy compliance. Investigate billing errors.
Supervise, train and/or mentor 1-3 positions in the MNPI Center such as Finance Professional 2’s, Executive Accounts Specialists, Undergraduate student workers.
Advise and effectively communicate with administrative personnel, faculty and lab staff on financial policies and procedures.
Go-to person for policy interpretation for departmental staff and lab personnel who prepare requisitions/purchase orders, vouchers, PCard (Purchasing Card) reconciliations, and expense reimbursements to ensure compliance with University and sponsored guidelines.
Use EFS to enter department deposits and journals for commitment control, combo codes, transfers, and general ledger corrections.
Complete assigned transaction approvals (EFS, ChromeRiver, RAR) on a daily basis and back up for coworker absences.
Certified Approver: Review expenses for appropriateness and allowability. Ensure proper accounting standards are met. Process grant rebudgets.
Effort coordinator: Coordinate the effort reporting process for an assigned department and assure correct effort reporting for all departmental employees and other assigned PIs and researchers working on sponsored projects. Monitor dollar value committed, salary cap compliance and reportable cost share. Verify that paid and unpaid effort have been properly accounted for in the payroll system and ECRT.
Maintain current job knowledge through continuing education and committee involvement.

BA/BS plus at least 4 years of professional accounting work experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 8 years.
