Our Administrative Team seeks an experienced and dynamic individual to serve as Director of Finance & Operations (DoF). The DoF reports to the Head of School and is an integral member of School Leadership. In this multi-faceted role, the DoF manages not only all financial activities of the school including facilities and operations, but is also responsible for the administration of technology, food service, and security. This position calls for a flexible and strategic partner who works directly with the Head of School and members of the Board of Trustees.
The Director of Finance & Operations at our school is a multi-faceted role with high visibility and responsibility. The successful candidate will have ample opportunities to become involved in all areas of the school, including Marketing and Admissions. The incumbent should also be prepared to take on tasks not typically associated with those of a DoF and ready to collaborate with all faculty and staff in a small, growing school.
Manage the School’s fiscal policies, programs, and practices including the development, administration, and reporting of the monthly and annual operating budgets and the short- and long-range financial plan.
Effectively budget and plan for the school’s expenses and prepare funding requests as needed.
Serve as liaison to the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, working closely with Committee Chair and Head of School in organizing agendas and meeting materials.
Oversee the annual financial and 401(k) plan audits and filings of tax returns.
Manage the daily business operations of the School, including tuition billing, payroll, accounts payable/receivable
Oversee all School operations, including technology, maintenance, security, and food service.
Manage all licenses and certifications necessary for operation of the school and school program with various city and state agencies including NYSED, NYC DOH/DOE, and FDNY among others.
Collaborate with the Facilities Manager to help plan and direct all replacements and renewals of the physical plant.
Serve as a member of the Finance Committee and Financial Aid Committee.
Collaborate with the School’s counsel and insurance agents regarding all legal and risk management matters.
Collaborate with the Head of School and other senior administrators on providing leadership regarding employee hiring, termination, and management.
Oversee all facilities rentals.
Provide transparent financial reporting and planning that builds trust among administrators, faculty and staff, parents, and trustees.
Develop and manage internal communications and data sets to effectively track, analyze, and report on financial, admissions, and fundraising areas to the administration and Board.
Advise and oversee the execution of major capital improvements and any other facility construction.
Serve as liaison and primary point of contact between landlord and school.
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; CPA or MBA or similar work experience preferred
3-plus years of financial and business leadership
Experience on senior administrative teams, with additional experience working in a start-up environment a plus
Relevant management experience, with specifically in an educational setting preferred
Chinese speaker preferred
