The Operations Finance Revenue Recognition team is responsible for the accuracy for billions of dollars of revenue across the world for both US GAAP and local statutory reporting. Contract Reviews and Technical Consultations · Review contractual arrangements in accordance with US and local GAAP to identify language that may require non-standard accounting treatment. · Be a subject matter expert providing technical advice on revenue recognition in order to influence deal structures for compliant reporting. · Work with Corporate Accounting, the corporate licensing group, product business groups, sales teams and operations groups to understand and resolve issues identified in the contractual arrangement reviews.
Education and Training · Increase the understanding of revenue recognition guidelines at Microsoft through participation in stakeholder education sessions, brown bags, summits, etc. · Key contributor to the evaluation of revenue recognition issues including writing accounting positions · Assist in implementation of new corporate revenue policies.
Other Projects: · Contribute to implementation of Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence within various RevRec tasks. · Subject matter expert to represent Ops Finance in support of global or regional projects. · SOX: Work closely with the Revenue Cycle process owner for all revenue recognition activities in SOX scope and implement initiatives to enhance controls.
· 5+ years of related accounting or finance work experience · Professional work experience and knowledge of GAAP accounting · BS/BA (or greater) degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or relevant field
· Experience in software, technology industry a plus · Experience in revenue recognition (ASC 606/IFRS 15) a plus · CPA or equivalent preferred
· Strong Microsoft Office application skills, especially Excel
