The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority is seeking an Assistant Director of Finance to lead key financial initiatives, financial process improvement efforts, internal control compliance and serve as the financial system administrator. In addition, this position will serve as the primary backup for the Director of Finance. This position is a member of our financial management team and will be provided with mentoring opportunities to grow their career in a friendly, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities include analysis of the agency strategic plan to identify financial business requirements that will enable the agency to meet its objectives. Key financial projects include: the transition to a new financial system, interfaces to the Commonwealth of Virginia’s financial system and the development of an ACH payment option for ABC customers. This position is responsible for the entire life cycle of financial projects, to include definition of business needs; project scope management; project timeline; allocation of project resources; communication to stakeholders and mitigating project risks. This position is also responsible for process improvement throughout the finance division and is the business system administrator for the financial system. In addition, this position is responsible for compliance with the Agency Risk Management and Internal Control Standards (ARMICS).
The selected candidate must have a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP). In addition, the candidate must have an in-depth knowledge of internal controls, cash and accrual based accounting systems and financial processes. The candidate also must be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently and as a member of a team; the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; must show initiative and flexibility and be willing to undertake a wide variety of challenging tasks and have a strong desire to learn.
Preferred qualifications include BS degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or comparable work experience.
This position will require completion of Statement of Economic Interest Form annually.
