The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Secretariat General,Advisory Services Department,Innovation Finance Advisory Division, Thematic Finance Advisory Unit at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a ( Associate) Finance Advisor. This is a full time, temporary position at grade 4/5. The term of this contract will be 18 months. This position is linked to EIC Fund Pilot. Panel interviews are anticipated from beginning of August.
Purpose The Innovation Finance Advisory ("IFA") Division is part of the Advisory Services Department (ASD). It has two Units, Project Advisory (PA) and Thematic Finance Advisory (TFA). The advertised post is for the TFA Unit. To reinforce its current team it is seeking to recruit an additional (Associate) Finance Advisor based in Luxembourg, with relevant financial experience. IFA provides upstream, project-related advice on priority innovation projects to enhance their access to finance, complementing the Bank's lending and blending activities in the Innovation finance area. Within this role, IFA has been mandated to provide advisory support to successful applicants to the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator Pilot. The EIC Accelerator is part of the European Innovation Council pilot that supports top-class innovators, entrepreneurs, small companies and scientists with funding opportunities and acceleration services. The EIC Accelerator provides grant-only support as well as support in the form of blended finance (combining grant and equity).The scheme supports high-risk, high-potential small and medium-sized innovative enterprises willing to develop and commercialise new products, services and business models that could drive economic growth and shape new markets or disrupt existing ones in Europe and worldwide. As an (Associate) Finance Advisor, internally referred to as (Associate) Officer, you will be contributing to expand and reinforce the EIB's financial advisory capabilities in Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) primarily in support of the Bank's and European Commission's actions and activities in high priority areas such as Climate Change, Energy, SMEs and digitalisation under the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI) and the European Investment Advisory Hub (EIAH) mandate established by the European Commission. You will be contributing to enhance the quality and diversity of innovative projects across the EU that can be financed by EIB Group's financial products. The primary specific focus of this post will be to fulfil the Bank's commitments related to the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator Pilot (more information below).
Specific Post Environment As a (Associate) Finance Advisor, you will be tasked to take a coordinating role in the delivery of bespoke advice primarily to selected companies for blended finance. The advisory support will be focused at the pre-due diligence stage of the EIC Accelerator pilot, supporting selected companies in the enhancement of their financial model and further due diligence documentation, with the objective of accelerating the EIC investment decision-making process.
Operating Network You will report to the Head of Unit and work in close collaboration with the Bank's services involved in the development and delivery of the Bank's innovation finance advisory activities, particularly with the Operations directorate. You will also have extensive contacts with EC services, notably DG RTD, EASME, selected companies and other IFA external stakeholders.
Accountabilities In close collaboration with other EIB Services concerned and under the supervision of the Head of Unit, you will:
Review and advice on due diligence material, content, level of details.
Ad-hoc support in development of Financial Model and Information Memorandum for the EIC and equity investors
High level review of main assumptions/critical areas of the business and of the underlying "equity/credit story" as well as commercial/market potential
Advice on funding options within the EIC and future fund-raising
Overall assessment of "investment readiness" and of actions to improve it going forward
Prepare a concise and complete "hand-over" note at the end of each assignment to facilitate the transfer to the EIB team responsible of the structuring of the EIC Accelerator equity investment.
Ensure close cooperation and good communication with the EIB structuring team
Participate on behalf of IFA and the Bank in external events, in particular any event or meeting related to the EIC Accelerator Programme
Contribute to the representation of IFA in internal Working Groups and Committees as required
Support knowledge sharing and teamwork within the Division
University degree in a relevant field, such as Finance, Economics or a business related discipline; alternatively in a science/ engineering degree followed by relevant postgraduate Finance studies.
Minimum of 3 years relevant professional experience, preferably in financial advisory gained in financial institutions, consultancy/advisory firms or rating agencies
Relevant experience in financial analysis including accounting knowledge business/financial planning and modelling, risk management, financial structuring and/or advising on structured or project finance operations
Demonstrated interest in following innovation trends in both the public and private sectors as well as an understanding of access to finance issues and for innovative projects/ promoters
Proven experience in successfully managing projects in a multicultural environment as well as an ability to work on several projects/activities at the same time
Proven experience in building and maintaining successful business relationships
Strong analytical skills paired with sound judgement and the ability to develop solutions for complex issues
Ability to draft clear and concise reports
Excellent command of standard computer tools (Word, Excel, Power Point)
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English (including presentation skills) and/or a good command of French. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage
