The City of Muskegon Heights (population 10,856 per 2010 census), is seeking a qualified person to fill the position of Assistant Finance Director/Treasurer.
Under the supervision of the City Manager, this position is responsible for budget preparation assistance and monitoring, accounting, property tax collections and distributions, payroll and financial reporting, and grant application assistance and reporting. The candidate will supervise a staff of two (2) employees. Other responsibilities include preparation and participation in the completion of the annual audit, plan administration of the retirement system and health care and other benefits for active and retired employees and develop, implement and maintain policies and internal controls to manage the City's financial records and risks.
Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of two (2) year's experience in governmental accounting. A Bachelor's degree is preferred with knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices. The candidate must also possess excellent communication, analytical and supervisory skills, experience in the use of office equipment, Microsoft Office Suite, and BS&A software (preferred).
Compensation is $52,000 - $63,000 DOQ. A full benefit package including Defined Contribution retirement, health insurance, life and dental insurance is offered to the potential candidate.
