UW Medicine includes the School of Medicine, UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, UW Neighborhood Clinics, UW Physicians, Valley Medical Center, and Airlift Northwest. In addition, the UW is closely affiliated with Seattle Children’s Hospital, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System. The Department of Medicine (the Department) is the largest department in the School of Medicine with nearly 2,500 staff, faculty, trainees and students and an annual budget of approximately $450 million consisting of patient care revenue, sponsored research funds, endowments and gifts, state funds and affiliated hospital funding associated with the academic programs within the department. The department is made up of thirteen subspecialty divisions: Allergy and Infectious Diseases; Cardiology; Dermatology; Gastroenterology; General Internal Medicine; Gerontology & Geriatric Medicine; Hematology; Medical Genetics; Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition; Nephrology; Oncology; Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine; and Rheumatology. These divisions occupy space and manage programs at multiple UW Medicine sites and affiliated entities. The Department of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Vice Chair of Finance and Administration (Vice Chair). General Description The Vice Chair serves as the strategic partner to the Chair in promoting excellence and growth in research, education and clinical practice for the Department of Medicine. In partnership with the Chair, the Vice Chair will guide and lead the development of the department Strategic Plan and Long-Range Financial Plan. The Vice Chair builds strategic alliances and partnerships within UW Medicine and its many affiliates. As a visionary leader within the UW Medicine Health System, the Vice Chair will work to execute strategic initiatives and priorities for the Department and the System. The Vice Chair will be a strong advocate for the Department of Medicine and the faculty, staff and trainees in the Department. The Vice Chair is a collaborative, innovative leader with responsibility and authority for all administrative functions within the Department. The Vice Chair provides strategic direction and guidance to high-level senior leadership with expertise in Academic Faculty Affairs, Financial Management, Operations Management, Clinical Service and Practice Plan Management, Compliance and Risk Management, Research Management, Information Management, Human Resource Management, Facilities Management, and Educational Programs Management. Success in this position will require a leader who has a proven record of creating a culture of trust, cohesion, and accountability. The position requires an excellent communicator with high emotional intelligence who can work with all members of the organization ranging from UW Medicine, hospital and department leadership as well as with faculty, trainees, and staff to provide novel solutions problem solve, recognize and seize opportunities and develop action plans to successfully accomplish the goals in support of the research, clinical and educational activities within and for the department.
